Assignment 2: Mission, Vision, Values, and Ethics Statements

Assignment 2: Mission, Vision, Values, and Ethics Statements

In this assignment, you will work on the first component building toward the final LASA. You are required to create your mission, vision, values, and ethics statements. These statements will help you focus your outlook on the LASA that you will complete in M4 Assignment 2 LASA. Each of these statements has specific requirements as outlined in the suggested readings. For example, a mission statement is only a few sentences that are carefully written to outline the entire mission of the agency. A vision statement is often only one sentence.

While this sounds easy, it is your goal to convey everything about your agency in 1 (i.e., the vision statement) or a few (i.e., the mission statement) sentences. As you discussed in M2 Assignment 1 Discussion, these statements are the framework for how you and your agency’s employees will frame your work together and with clients.

Tasks:

In a 2- to 4-page professional proposal, complete the following:Create a mission, vision, and values statement for the proposed agency (PO 8).Create an ethical statement for the organization (PO 6).

In addition, you will address the following program outcomes: Theoretical Applications (PO 1), Research (PO 3), Personal Value Systems & Interpersonal Effectiveness (PO 4), Multicultural Competence (PO 5), Professional Ethics (PO 6), and Administration of Human Services (PO 8).

Please note, this assignment will be revisited and revised based upon instructor feedback when integrated into M4 Assignment 2 LASA. Please review the LASA Overview for full details.

III Essay

 Wade and Tavris explain that each person’s body experiences ups and downs throughout the typical day. In fact, biological rhythms, the fluctuations that occur in one’s biological system, dictate numerous factors within one’s body, including hormones, urine output, blood pressure, and our reactions to stimuli. Most of the time, our biological rhythms are in sync with the external environment, and they typically occur within a 24-hour cycle known as circadian rhythms. In this assignment, you will keep an hourly record of your mental alertness level for a minimum of three days using the following five-point scale: PSY 1010, General Psychology 2 1–extremely drowsy or mentally lethargic 2–somewhat drowsy or mentally lethargic 3–moderately alert 4–alert and efficient 5–extremely alert and efficient At the end of your observation period, you should compose an essay that defines circadian rhythms and explains how one’s biological clock works. Additionally, you should describe what happens when it does not work properly. You must also address the following questions in your essay: Did your level of alertness follow a certain pattern or circadian rhythm? Did you reach a noticeable high and low point once every 24 hours, or did you have a shorter rhythm? Did your level of alertness rise and fall numerous times throughout the day? If you performed this activity on the weekend, were your cycles the same as during the week? Finally, think about how this experiment affects your life and your perception. What other factors influence your perception? To conclude your essay, you should discuss four psychological factors that could be used to explain how you perceived the world around you. Draw on the research from the textbook as you compose your essay. In addition to your textbook, you must use at least one other academic source. Your response should contain an introduction and conclusion and be at least one page in length, but it can be longer if necessary to address all aspects of the assignment.

Assignment 1: Discussion Question: Obedience

Assignment 1: Discussion Question: Obedience By Saturday, April 25, 2015, respond to the discussion question. Submit your responses to the appropriate Discussion Area. Use the same Discussion Area to comment on your classmates’ submissions by Saturday, April 25, 2015, and continue the discussion until Wednesday, April 29, 2015 of the week. Because I said so . . . In our culture it is fairly normal to see a parent socialize their children to obey authority figures without question. We teach them that because they are a child if they question the authority figures in their life that they are being disrespectful and often punish them for this kind of questioning. Now consider the outcome of Milgram’s research into obedience in which many participants followed the request of a perceived authority figure and administering shocks up to 450 volts to a person who simply got the answers wrong. Read the following article by Thomas Blass about Milgram and his research: http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200203/the-man-who-shocked-the-world Additionally read the article at http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=1297922 about the prank call at McDonalds that lead to the false imprisonment and sexual assault of a young employee all because the assistant manager blindly followed the instructions of a man on the phone. Discuss, in general, why children are socialized to obey authority figures. Does the way we socialize our children set them on a possible path toward this kind of obedience? What benefits come from our children blindly following the authority figures in their life? What negative consequences can come from this kind of socialization? Is there a better option in the way we socialize our children? If so, what would be a better strategy? Should this strategy change as the child ages? If so, how would it be different for older children versus younger children?

Multiracial society against racism.

Students will choose one of the options below as the topic of their paper, and will be expected to apply

the material covered in class (especially Bonilla-Silva’s 4 frames of colorblind racism) to their everyday

social world. This could be in their everyday personal relationships and conversations (e.g., journal); in

public Internet postings (e.g., videos) or social media; or traditional media (film, TV, newspaper). Keep in

mind that in Chapters 3-6, Bonilla-Silva outlines the typical colorblind racism patterns, while in Chapter 7

he looks at how progressive racial ideology differs from those, and in Chapter 8 how racial “minorities”

tend to use colorblindness differently than the majority.

As his/her critical-thinking decision-making objective, the student should decide whether the societal

evidence he/she reviews in the paper

(a) demonstrates the typical colorblind pattern that Bonilla-Silva

describes in the textbook;

or (b) reveals a more progressive and/or minority pattern;

or (c) some

combination of the above;

or (d) some other pattern not discussed in the textbook but worth exploring in

future research. The student may find that the quotes he/she analyzes deliberately challenge one of the 4

frames of colorblindness in some way, and he/she can note this in the paper as well. Each paper should

consider the implications of the analysis of colorblindness for the future of a multiracial society. In other

words, how do the representations discovered in your analysis help and/or hinder a society’s progress

toward inclusive multiracial democracy?

[NOTE: Regardless of the option chosen, students should write a minimum of 6 pages total as part of

their paper.]

Critical thinking 2 page essay

2 page essay

You are the teacher!  You’re planning a course in critical thinking for one of the following groups (of your choice):

     (1) a group of ten-year-olds

     (2) a group of high school juniors

     (3) a group of interested prisoners

     (4) a group of average working Joes  (aged somewhere between you and me).

     (5) an online -version of the course

What would your goals be in your course? Where would you be trying to go, and how would you go about getting there? To what extent and in what way might the particular character of your students affect the goals, content and approach in your course?

[You will  notice: this is a sneaky way of putting the question about what critical thinking is and how one goes about becoming a critical thinker – in this case, in a circumscribed context (of your choice).]

This is not intended as a research  assignment ,  but as  a thinking activity. Please limit yourself to a couple of pages (if possible).
